Energy Storage Lab@NUS

Our lab focuses on modeling, estimation, optimization, and control of energy storage (e.g., battery, supercapacitor, fuel cell, flywheel, etc) for electrified vehicles and renewable energy systems.

Using energy storage as a bridge, we are thrilled to connect automotive, transportation, and power system communities through interdisciplinary projects and fill the gap between different energy sectors. Our lab is dedicated to an efficient, reliable, and clean power/transportation system, and ultimately, a green world.

NEWS: Our group will move to the EECS department at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in Jan. 2025. Several positions will be available SOON!

Our lab is looking for passionate and highly motivated Postdoc Researchers and PhD students. Several positions will be available in energy storage areas, including but not limited to:

  • Advanced Battery Management System:

    • Battery string- and pack-level state/parameter estimation

    • Mechanism of cell-to-cell variation among parallel-connected battery cells

    • Data-driven methods for: 1) detecting cell-level faults in battery packs; 2) estimating battery remaining useful life; and 3) fast evaluating/classifying the used battery cells

  • Applications of Energy Storage in Renewable Energy Systems

    • G2V/V2G techniques for smart cities

    • Reusing batteries retiring from vehicles

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants are expected to have BS/MS/PhD degrees in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control and Automation, Power and Energy, Applied Mathematics, or other related fields.

What we offer: You will collaborate with the top-tier companies and universities in the world and work with many talents in our group. We are dedicated to building an open, respectful, and inclusive work environment by all means.

  • For postdocs: We will offer worldwide competitive salaries and benefits, such as health insurance and vacation leave. Please reach out for more detail.

  • For PhD students: Please explore the potential scholarship opportunities available at NUS. For example, President’s Graduate Fellowship, NUS-SINGA Scholarship, and A*STAR Graduate Scholarship.
